My fifth year doing Yuletide!

I pitched for some of the more obscure fandoms in the fandom promo post:
My Sweet Devil (2003)
The Witches of Thistle Grove Series - Lana Harper

A Witch's Printing Office

The majority of what I say below likely will have already been in the prompts. Basically, I like hopeful/positive with some thoughtful ideas, romance when applicable, and found family/friendship dynamics as well. I'm not looking for angsty/traumatic/any fic dealing with the current state of things (real world events/politics/COVID), or just deeply negative in general. I'm also somewhat adverse to deep dives into religious thought or focusing on the ins and outs of religion (it's just not what I'm interested in reading!)  I am not looking for smut this Yuletide, nor am I interested in fics that delve deeply into the nuances of gender and sexuality.

I'm always down for humor, if you enjoy writing that! If there is hurt/angst, I'd really like it resolved/to have comfort at the end of it.

I like fic that's character focused, slice of life/daily life focused, and interpersonal relationships (platonic, romantic, familial) focused. Especially if fic acknowledges the uniqueness of the character (like an artist integrating art/their practice into their life, or managing their artistic self with their non-art career). I like fics that are a 'missing episode' type deal that just expands on what the media has already given us.

A note of clarification: when I say "
AUs that remove them from canon context", I mean something like Bakery AU or High School AU. I noticed that sometimes AU is used for "Hanahaki AU" or "soul mate AU" but the canon setting is the same - that's fine!

I, as someone who works in education, am a huuuge fan of lifelong learning/self improvement, although I know that's a fairly niche thing to write about ^_^; But it's an idea, if you want to write about it for any of the below fandoms!

My AO3 is https://archiveofourown.org/users/stifledlaughter/pseuds/stifledlaughter if you'd like to see the kind of fics I like!

Also I welcome treats, if anyone would be so kind as to write any :D

My requests:

Witches of Thistle Grove Series - Lana Harper

Characters: Nina Blackmoore, Dasha Avramov, Talia Avamarov, Emmy Harlow

DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, smut, AUs that remove them from canon context, current events in the real world.

Post-canon about the lives of the characters we got to know in the series. I'd love to see more of Thistle Grove, maybe see new festivals/holidays, or have characters interacting and working together. Basically, I want more of what the series gave me. I suggested some characters but you can focus on any one of the suggested characters, it doesn’t have to be all of them. I love when characters learn more about magic, or do new things with magic.

This is one of the rare times I am okay with religion being a part of the fic, as the Pagan aspects of Thistle Grove don’t cause tension with my own personal religious issues, and the Pagan festivals/rituals are very much a part of the series.

My Sweet Devil (2003)

Characters: Maki (My Sweet Devil), Mentor (My Sweet Devil), Maki's Hunter Friend (My Sweet Devil)

DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, smut, AUs that remove them from canon context (canon divergence is fine), focusing on religious themes.

So it has an open/ambiguous ending, so I'd love post-canon, but I also wouldn't mind "during-canon" where Maki and her mentor (I could not for the life of me remember his name so I guess we will make one up lol) fight more demons or just live life with the knowledge they have magic demon blood and what that means for them. Also Maki has a fellow female demon-fighting friend - what's her deal? (I am fine with Maki and Mentor being lovers (as it is… sorta implied? Kinda? Hard to tell) or just Mentor and Mentee.)

I genuinely could not find the name of the Mentor character. You will just have to make it up, which is fine! If you do spot it somehow and I missed it, feel free to use that name or make up one, haha. I found after nominations that the Friend's name is Hayami.

A Witch's Printing Office (Manga)

Characters: Mika Kamiya

DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, smut, AUs that remove them from canon context (canon divergence is fine), current events in the real world/our Earth, focusing on religious themes.

(The below ideas are not required/necessary, just ideas/prompts!)

I would love to just see "the continuing adventures of Mika" in her fantasy world! I love how the canon goes into the ins and outs of doujin publishing, working at conventions, and fannish writing - expansions on that would be really great. As someone that has worked in publishing and attended many conventions, those things particularly speak to me, and there are so many scenarios that you could put into this fantasy world that translate over from ours. (While she is the only requested character, you can obviously have other people in the fic, as long as she's the focus!)

Long Riders! (Anime)

Characters: Kurata Ami, Niigaki Aoi

DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, smut, AUs that remove them from canon context (canon divergence is fine), current events in the real world/our Earth, focusing on religious themes.

I’d love to have more post-canon works! Do they ever go to France? Do they do long biking somewhere else? I also wouldn’t mind shippy content between Ami and Aoi but it’s not necessary. I really liked the series for showing the joy of biking longer rides, and just reading more about their adventures would be lovely. Maybe one of them even works at a bike shop in the future or something!

Spirited Away (2001)

Characters:
 Ogino Chihiro, Worldbuilding

Summary

DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, smut, AUs that remove them from canon context (canon divergence is fine), current events in the real world/our Earth.

One thing I love about the Ghibli movies is how they intregrate Japan's various religions and beliefs (Shintoism, Buddhism, folklore, etc). I'd love to see a fic that explores this world, and if it's post-canon or during canon, how Sen/Chihiro engages with it. I love stories about youkai, Japanese traditional folk stories, etc. If it's post-canon, how does Chihiro honor the memory of her time in the spirit world, or does she somehow re-engage with it? How is Haku further involved, if you want to include him? (Platonic, romantic, whatever!) I also am a huge fan of Edo era Tokyo (or I suppose Edo era Edo lol) and that's the vibes I got from the time period the bath house was in. The traditions/festivals/etc of that time really interest me because they often are so deeply tied into folk traditions and folklore, if that's something you want to explore.

Prompt ideas (obviously go off if you have a different idea, these are just thrown out there): Chihiro works part-time at a Shinto shrine and reconnects with her spirit world ways, she starts to do research on youkai/folklore and reports on what she saw, etc.

This is an exception to my "no deep dives into religion" DNW I expressed on other prompts/in my letter, since I am explicitly asking for Spirited Away specific explorations of the spirit world's folklore and "religion" (if you can call it that, I know it's not an easy descriptor).

My fourth year doing Yuletide! This year I am focusing on media that has to do somehow with doujinshi (amateur/self published manga, can be either fannish in nature or original works). The three pieces I chose are meta-commentary somehow on the doujin world or about artists who make doujinshi.

I pitched all three fandoms here on this page in the fandom post (just search for 'stifledlaughter' to find my posts on these pages:

The majority of what I say below likely will have already been in the prompts. Basically, I like hopeful/positive with some thoughtful ideas, romance when applicable, and found family/friendship dynamics as well. I'm also somewhat adverse to deep dives into religious thought or focusing on the ins and outs of religion (it's just not what I'm interested in reading!)  I

My requests:

Genshiken (anime) (Note: this nomination is for "Genshiken", not "Genshiken: Second Generation", which I am not interested in.)

Characters: Ogiue Chika, Ohno Kanako, Sasahara Kanji, Tanaka Soichirou
DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, smut, AUs that remove them from canon context (canon divergence is fine), current events in the real world/our Earth, focusing on religious themes

I would love to see more group Gen fics - them going to Comiket again, maybe a 'missing episode' type of deal where they have to deal with more club-related issues. Anything that gets into the dynamics of their lives as otaku/nerds/anime fans. I also like the two ships in the show that are canon and it could be fun to see them doing dates involving their specific interests (cosplay, ero games, doujinshi, etc). You can include the other characters in the show of course but the four I listed are the characters I'd most like to read about.

Doujin Work

Characters: Osana Najimi (Doujin Work), Tsuyuri (Doujin Work)
DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, smut, AUs that remove them from canon context (canon divergence is fine),  focusing on religious themes, Justice and Sora (just not a fan of their characters)

I'd love to read more about Najimi and Tsuyuri's lives after the show. Do they continue to table with each other? What sort of works do they make? How do they grow as doujinshi artists? Do they ever become big-time doujinshi artists or stay small? I'm flexible Gen or Shippy, I didn't particularly that feel they were shippy but if the spirit moves you, sure, write them shippy!

My third year doing Yuletide! Once again I am requesting some self-published novels in the hopes that someone else has also read them, but also a more traditional choice, a manga that can be bought in bookstores! Incredible. I pitched all three fandoms here on this page in the fandom post (just search for 'stifledlaughter' to find my three posts in a row) https://yuletide.dreamwidth.org/281559.html?page=11#comments.

The majority of this likely will have already been in the prompts. Basically, I like hopeful/positive with some thoughtful ideas content, romance when applicable, and found family/friendship dynamics as well. Since we are still having a Really Bad Time this year, I'm definitely not looking for angsty/traumatic/any fic dealing with the current state of things (covid-19/politics), or just deeply negative in general. I'm also somewhat adverse to deep dives into religious thought or focusing on the ins and outs of religion (it's just not what I'm interested in reading!)

My requests:

Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites - Joy Demorra
Characters requested:
Vlad Blutstein & Ursula Brandr & Nathan Northland
DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, events in the real world/our Earth, focusing on religious themes, genderswap, smut, AUs
(The below ideas are not required/necessary, just ideas/prompts!)
I'd love a canonverse "small moments" sort of fic, like any time during the main plot, maybe one of them asking each of the other members of this team a question and going to each member musing on it, or one character assessing their different relationships with the others. I just wanna see these three together in some way, whether they are in love yet, working their way there, or any variation on that journey. While I'm not adding it as a character tag, I'm also down for any worldbuilding you want to work in there, as I adore the magic/gaslamp fantasy/supernatural themes in the book.

The Warrior's Guild - Scarlett Gale
Characters: Lucían (The Warrior's Guild)  Glory (The Warrior's Guild)
DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, noncon/infidelity, smut, AUs
(The below ideas are not required/necessary, just ideas/prompts!)
If this had a tag, I'd want it to be "Lucían and Glory living their best lives"! What other jobs do they do with the Warrior's Guild? How does Lucían improve his magic? How do they deepen their relationships with the people they met along the way in their journey in the books? Do they take up knitting, gardening, or (gasp) get a pet? How is the abbey doing, and do they help out a lot? Basically this is me asking for any sort of continuation after the books!

A Witch's Printing Office (Manga)
Characters: Mika Kamiya
DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, smut, AUs, events in the real world/our Earth, focusing on religious themes

I did it!! I knocked out a ton of my MFL and managed to hit all of the boxes.
Now to do it all again next year!

My second year doing Yuletide!! Hooray! The first two fandoms are self-published book series, so they may be pretty long shots haha but hope springs eternal.

My requests:

The Magpie Chronicles - Michaela Ro
Characters requested:  Yamazaki Youji, Nakahara Shiori, Akaryu Masaomi, Kitahara Hinami
DNW: major character death, depression/major illness, events in the real world/our Earth, focusing on religious themes, genderswap, smut
(The below ideas are not required/necessary, just ideas/prompts!)
Unlike most of my Yuletide requests, I am actually ok with AUs for this one!! As far as we know in the books, these four are not together (yet.... hehehe) but in this fic, you can write them as together, still getting close to each other, good friends, etc. I'd love a canonverse "small moments" sort of fic, like any time between their missions, maybe one of them asking each of the other members of this team a question and going to each member musing on it, or one character assessing their different relationships with the others. If you're doing an AU, well, I just want to see these four in it! Heist AU? Pride and Prejudice AU? Your favorite anime AU? I just wanna see these four together (platonic or otherwise, can be mixed who is platonic and who is not, etc, I'm flexible lol).

How is the abbey doing, and do they help out a lot? Basically this is me asking for any sort of continuation after the books!

Yuru Camp
Characters:
  Kagamihara Nadeshiko and Shima Rin

DNW: dark themes (depression/major illness, major character death, infidelity), genderswap, smut, AUs, references to covid-19
(The below ideas are not required/necessary, just ideas/prompts!)

I’d love to see a fic (either romantic or platonic, up to your comfort level!) between these two. (The other characters are welcome to show up but I’d like to focus on these two.) It could be present-day, maybe them on a camping trip to a specific location in Japan that you’d do research on (if you enjoy doing that!) or perhaps you make up an ideal campsite and scenery that they’d absolutely love. Or maybe it’s a future fic where they’re fitting in camping while attending college, or working, or figuring it all out, not sure where their paths are going but loving the time they spend outdoors. Other characters can be present but I’d like the focus to be on Nadeshiko and Rin. Sticking with the mood of the show would probably be a great guiding line for this!

I’d really prefer it be kept to canon-verse and not an AU.

Is your Marked for Later frankly overwhelming and you don't know where to start reading? Do you hop from fic to fic in your list, unsure of where to land in it?

Then this challenge is for you!

Marked for Later Bingo Challenge 2021

The goal is to cut down your Marked for Later a bit. On the card are types of works that might be in your marked for later that you find and read (or, depending on what the square says, delete.) Marked for Later applies to any way that you keep a running list of works you mean to get to. This is not a challenge to add more works to your MFL, but to mark off the Bingo square when you have finished the square-chosen work (or decided it wasn't for you and deleted it from your MFL). ("Work" can apply to any type of thing you have in your Marked for Later - written fic, podfic, art you've been meaning to look at, meta.)

The master sheet is here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fQxnuHp-1iQ5eA38Og6d7F4hJHwT3ai9zsg0V_4zb4M/edit?usp=sharing

How to use the sheet:

1. Go to File, and then Make a Copy. Delete whatever tabs you don't want (so you can keep, for example, just Data and whatever Sample Bingo you would like.)

or
Go to File, and then Download as an Excel sheet and delete whatever tabs you would like if you prefer not to use sheets and instead use Excel itself.
(Just copy-pasting the cells to your own sheet doesn't work as it collapses the rows to removes the bingo shape, which is why I suggest the two ways above.)

2. There may be some repeats- that's just how the formula for this sheet ended up. To fix that, go into the Data tab and copy-paste a replacement line into your own Excel sheet that you made in step 1. You can also just swap out squares if you feel like it! If you end up having issues with formulas, copy the cell and then "paste special - values only" over it.

When you get a Bingo, comment on this post with a screenshot of your bingo and you will be showered with praise. You can also list what fics you read if you'd like! Anon commenting is enabled.

The deadline to get a bingo is December 31st 11:59pm EST. You can of course keep using the sheet after, but this is for the challenge parameters, as deadlines help people move along with tasks and all : )

Have fun, and if you get stressed by the amount of works in your marked for later, take this with you:

This is my first year doing Yuletide, so if I mess anything up, I apologize!

The majority of this was already in my prompts on the official signup. Basically, I like hopeful/positive with some thoughtful ideas content, romance when applicable, and found family/friendship dynamics as well. Since we have all had a Really Bad Time this year, I'm definitely not looking for angsty/traumatic/any fic dealing with the current state of things, or just deeply negative in general. I'm always down for humor as well, if you enjoy writing that! If there is hurt/angst, I'd really like it resolved/to have comfort at the end of it. I'm not particularly looking for smut this particular Yuletide.

I like fic that's character focused, slice of life/daily life focused, and interpersonal relationships (platonic, romantic, familial) focused. Especially if fic acknowledges the uniqueness of the character (like an artist integrating art/their practice into their life, or a magic-user studying up on their magic to improve their life.) I, as someone who works in education, am a huuuge fan of lifelong learning/self improvement, although I know that's a fairly niche thing to write about ^^; But it's an idea, if you want to write about it for any of the below fandoms!

My AO3 is https://archiveofourown.org/users/stifledlaughter/pseuds/stifledlaughter if you'd like to see the kind of fics I've written and bookmarked.

My requests:

Serial Experiments Lain
Character requested: Iwakura Lain
DNW: major character death (Lain existing in The Wired is considered to me as if Lain is ‘alive’ still), depression/major illness, genderswap, kidfic/pregnancy
(The below ideas are not required/necessary, just ideas/prompts!)
I’d like to see Lain maybe visiting different parts of the Wired, musing on her ‘life’ in the Wired, maybe reflecting on her past experiences with something of a hopeful air. Since she was so young in the show, I’m curious how she would ‘grow’ after as a sort of demigod in The Wired, but still developing as a teenager. I’d really prefer it be kept to canon-verse and not an AU.

Shirobako (Anime)
Characters: Aoi Miyamori, Ema Yasuhara
DNW: dark themes (depression/major illness, major character death, noncon, infidelity), genderswap, kidfic/pregnancy
(The below ideas are not required/necessary, just ideas/prompts!)
I’d love to see a fic (preferably romantic but can be platonic, up to your comfort level!) between these two. (The other characters are welcome to show up but I’d like to focus on these two.) Something slice-of-life and career-focused about them maybe having a small success in their field/something that ends on a positive note, or something reflecting a domestic situation/scene. I’d really prefer it be kept to canon-verse and not an AU.

Emelan - Tamora Pierce
Characters: Dedicate Lark, Dedicate Rosethorn
DNW: dark themes (depression/major illness, major character death, noncon, infidelity), genderswap, pregnancy
(The below ideas are not required/necessary, just ideas/prompts!)
I love the relationship (which was hinted to be romantic but not explicitly so due to the era of publication, I assume) between Lark and Rosethorn, and really would want to see a fic focusing on them in a domestic sense. If you aren’t comfortable writing them in a relationship, friendship/co-parenting is fine too!
I’d really prefer it be kept to canon-verse and not an AU.
Bonus points: Details about magic and how it interacts with their daily lives.
